CHICAGO — A man died Wednesday afternoon after being shot outside of his home on the Near West Side, police said.

Preliminary reports said the man was shot in his stomach and back at 12:07 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Washburne Avenue, just west of Addams/Medill Park, police said.

The man died from his injuries, according to Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office later identified the man as Eric Washington, 25, of the 1200 block of West Washburne Avenue.

"You heard pow, pow, pow, pow," said a resident who wished not to be named. "It sounded like at least 10 shots. It all happened so quick."

Cory Winston, a longtime friend described Washington as a good person. "He was a good kid, [who] never bothered anyone," Winston said.
