Police Looking For Man Possibly Responsible for 15-Plus Lakeview Burglaries

CHICAGO — The search is on in Lakeview as police try to identify a man captured on film they believe is responsible for at least 15 burglaries since February. 

Now, authorities are asking the public's help in hopes that someone will recognize the man's face from a screen grab of security footage obtained by police. 

He is described as a black man of an unknown age with a heavy build, bald head and mustache. He is seen on camera wearing a hooded sweatshirt and beanie-type hat.

Police say the man, who has been seen using a type of "pry tool" to gain entry into condo buildings or lobby areas, he searched through parking garages and residents' vehicles, taking items along the way.

A shopping cart has been seen with him during the time of the burglaries, police said. 

So far, incidents have been reported in the following areas:

• 500 block of West Briar Place on Feb. 7 at 9 p.m.

• 500 block of West Briar Place on Feb. 23 at 4 a.m.

• 600 block of West Wrightwood Avenue (15 victims) on March 17 between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m.

• 1200 block of West Diversey Parkway between March 31 at 11 p.m. and April 1 at 7:45 a.m.

• 2700 block of North Racine Avenue on April 1 between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

• 900 block of West Belmont Avenue between April 19 at 11 p.m. and April 20 at 2 a.m.
