CHICAGO — Police are warning residents to take extra precaution after an uptick in robberies in Austin in April.

At least two people were robbed Saturday in separate incidents after meeting with a man they met online in the 5200 block of West Race Avenue. It is unclear why they agreed to meet the man; the incidents occurred at 5:30 a.m. and 9:45 p.m., police said.

During the incidents, witnesses described the man as black, between 18 and 24 years old and weighing between 150 and 190 pounds. The man is around 5'11, police said.

Victims have also been robbed at gunpoint by one or two thieves in or near a gas station in the 5100 block of West Madison Street. The incidents occurred around 6:30 a.m. on April 12 and at 1:10 a.m. on April 20, police said.
