CHICAGO — Police are warning residents after a string of burglaries in Austin, either in garages or empty or foreclosed homes.

In four incidents, an unknown number of burglars entered through an overhead garage door or unlocked side door and removed property, police said in a statement.

The most recent incident occurred sometime between April 18 at 10 a.m. and April 19 at 7:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Austin Boulevard. The other incidents happened on April 18 between 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Menard Avenue, April 9 or 10 in the 5500 block of West Haddon Avenue, and April 7 at 4:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Waller Avenue.

In a separate statement, police warned of burglars forcing their way into empty or foreclosed homes and removing copper piping and fixtures.

The burglaries occurred between April 16 and April 22 in the 4400 block of Van Buren Street, and between April 4 and April 7 in the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, police said.
