CHICAGO — A family-owned restaurant in Bridgeport set to close this weekend, its owner said.

Wing Yip Chop Suey, 537 W. 26th St., has been serving Chinese food to Bridgeport residents since 1978, said Connie Moy, who owns the restaurant with her father.

"We are set to close Friday but we may open Saturday depending on inventory," Moy said.

Moy and her father have sold the building and are unsure what the new owners' plans are for the restaurant.

Neighboring businesses were disappointed to hear the news that the family restaurant was closing after 37 years serving the community.

"It's sad to see them closing," said Vincet Scarlata, manager of Punky's Pizza. "They've been around since we opened Punky's 13 years ago. They're staple to the Bridgeport community."

"They had great food," Scalata said. "It's always sad to see another family-owned business close down."
