WEST TOWN — Ogden International School has appointed the head of its elementary school to lead both of its campuses amid a search for a new full-time principal.

The Ogden Local School Council on Monday appointed Karen Valentine as interim principal through the end of the school year, according to an e-mail sent to parents.

Valentine assumes the role after Shane Goldstein Smith, another interim principal, left Ogden for the top job at a New York charter school last month. Smith was the third head administrator to leave Ogden since longtime principal Kenneth Staral resigned in 2013.

The Ogden school year ends in June. The Downtown school's council said it will host a community forum next month with principal finalists, but a date has not yet been set.

Ogden serves 12 grades and pre-kindergarten on two campuses at 24 W. Walton and 1250 W. Erie streets. Valentine, Ogden LSC Chair Tracy Shine, and a spokeswoman for Chicago Public Schools did not immediately return messages.
