New Crown Liquors Sign Signals Progress in Revamp

By Darryl Holliday | April 16, 2015 5:21am

AVONDALE — Crown Liquors appears to be one step closer to reopening as a new restaurant and bar.

If a new outdoor sign is any indication, work at the still-unnamed project is moving ahead at the six-corner intersection of Milwaukee, Kimball and Diversey avenues. The long-time bar/liquor store (known as a "slashie" to some) was bought by the owners of the Rocking Horse, Dante's Pizzeria and High Dive.

Windows are covered with brown paper while construction continues, but according to co-owner Georg Simos, the building at 2821 N. Milwaukee Ave. could eventually feature outdoor seating at the new eatery, alongside an already expanded craft beer selection at its attached liquor store (think Maria's Community Bar in Bridgeport).

The new and old sign are mostly side-by-side at Crown Liquors for now.
