CHICAGO — An Indiana woman is facing first-degree murder charges and other charges after hitting a car her husband was driving in, which spun into and killed a pedestrian Sunday.
Police said Shikita Woods, 33, of Gary, was drunk when she got into her car in the 5500 block of South State Street in Washington Park early Sunday after a fight with her husband, police said.
Around 3 a.m., Woods drove into a car she knew her husband was a passenger in and sent it into a light pole. The car also struck a 51-year-old man, who was taken to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.
Brent Nelson, of the 0-100 block of West Garfield Boulevard, was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Woods' husband and the driver of the car were taken to Mercy Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.
Woods was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated DUI, reckless homicide, two counts of DUI, driving on a revoked license and various other traffic citations, police said.
She was expected in bond court Tuesday.
