Three Shot in South Chicago Among Eight Wounded Since Monday Morning

CHICAGO — Eight people have been wounded in shootings since Monday morning, including three people shot within a three-hour span and just blocks apart in South Chicago.

Most recently, a 27-year-old man was shot in the 8200 block of South Muskegon Avenue just minutes before midnight, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Around 11:52 p.m, the victim was getting out of his car when a man walked up to him and shot him in the upper back. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

Two hours earlier and about a half mile away, a 22-year-old man was shot.

Around 9:40 p.m., the man was walking in the 8100 block of South Phillips Avenue when he was shot in the right ankle. He walked into South Shore Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

Around 9:05 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 8700 block of South Saginaw Avenue. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

A 28-year-old man was also shot while driving in Grand Crossing Monday night. Around 10:25 p.m., the man was stopped at a stoplight in the 7900 block of South Vincennes Avenue when someone pulled up in a silver four-door car and shot him in the shoulder, Alfaro said.

The man took himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition as stabilized, Alfaro said.

Four people, including a 16-year-old boy were shot on the South and West sides Monday.

The violent Monday followed a weekend in which shootings left two dead and 26 wounded across the city.
