LINCOLN SQUARE — Voters in the 47th Ward take their civic duty seriously it seems.

In a ward-by-ward ranking of early voting totals in advance of Tuesday's runoff election, the 47th is fourth in the number of ballots cast, with 3,222 as of Thursday, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

The ward is outpaced only by the 41st, with 5,522 votes; the 19th, with 5,233 votes; and the 45th, with 3,502 votes. Both the 41st and 45th wards have hotly contested aldermanic runoffs on the ballot.

Across the city, 109,982 Chicagoans have taken advantage of early voting for the runoff. By comparison, 57,207 early ballots had been cast at the same point prior to election day in February.
