LAKEVIEW — Fall Out Boy will play Wrigley Field on Opening Night, according to E News.

According to the report, the band will play three songs before the Cubs play the St. Louis Cardinals on April 5.

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, who grew up in the Chicago area, told E News that "Wrigley Field has always been a magical place to me."

He cited seeing former Cub players Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg play there and going with his father to one of the first night games at the park.

He also recalled living in Roscoe Village when the band was still struggling and passing out fliers at nearby Metro after games.

"It has been a lifetime dream to get the chance to play at Wrigley Field," Wentz said.

The band began in north suburban Wilmette in 2001 and includes Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley. Their first public performance reportedly was in a DePaul University cafeteria.

In an interview last spring with Billboard, Wentz said he would sit in "the crummy seats" as a kid at Wrigley. Wentz said he still goes to two or three games a season.

Asked what it would be like in the city if the Cubs ever won the World Series, Wendt said: "I think that would be insane. Chicago would lose its mind."

ESPN's Jesse Rogers said in a tweet that the band will perform "Centuries," "Uma Thurman" and "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark."

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
