HYDE PARK — The Chicago Chorale will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” just days before the 288th anniversary of the masterpiece’s premiere.

The group will perform the piece that premiered on Good Friday in 1727 at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rockefeller Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave.

The performance on Palm Sunday is part of the chapel’s Holy Week observances leading up to Easter.

The Chicago Chorale will perform with a full orchestra and an ensemble of period instruments. Stephen Soph will perform as the evangelist, and Gerard Sundberg as Jesus, joined by soloists Ellen Hargis, Angela Young Smucker and Ryan De Ryke.

Tickets are $30, $40 for reserved seats and $15 for students. Tickets can be bought by clicking here.
