Firefighter Among Six Hurt in South Shore Wednesday

CHICAGO — A firefighter was among six people hurt in a fire in a South Shore apartment complex Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived in the 7800 block of South Essex Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Chief Joe Roccasalva, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

Two people were rescued from the upper floor window of the four-story building and the fire was extinguished before 10:30 a.m., Roccasalva said.

Three adults and two children were taken to Jackson Park Hospital after the fire. They were listed in good condition, Roccasalva said.

A firefighter was taken to Trinity Hospital for heat exhaustion. He was listed in serious condition, Roccasalva said.
