Man Attempts to Lure Girl into Car in River North: Police

RIVER NORTH — Chicago police have issued a community alert after a man reportedly attempted to kidnap a girl Tuesday morning in River North.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., a 12-year-old girl was walking along the 500 block of West Elm Street when the suspect attempted to lure her into his car, police said. The girl escaped harm after running from the scene and alerting school security.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven black man in his 30s wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and driving a small, white four-door sedan. The suspect has a dark complexion and may have a scratch on his face, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 312-747-8380. Police urge the public to report suspicious people or activity, and not let children walk alone.
