THE LOOP — A short stretch of Wabash Avenue closed to vehicles last week to make way for a new L stop Downtown, and starting Monday, the Madison and Wabash station will be closed for demolition, too.
The Wabash closure from Washington to Madison streets is expected to last 1½ years as work begins on the forthcoming Washington-Wabash CTA station.
The new L station will replace two 100-year-old stations at Madison and Randolph when it opens in fall 2016. The Washington-Wabash stop, which will serve the Brown, Orange, Purple, Pink and Green lines, is expected to be the CTA's fifth-busiest station upon completion.
The existing CTA stop at Madison Street and Wabash Avenue closes Monday for demolition, while another stop at Randolph and Wabash will remain open throughout the new station's construction.
The Chicago Department of Transportation will host biweekly updates during the project's construction beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at 218 S. Wabash Ave., Suite 500. Check out the project brochure for more information.
