COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An Englewood man has been charged with crashing a stolen minivan into a Lincoln Park Best Buy — allowing a team of burglars to steal more than $11,000 of merchandise.

Prosecutors alleged Kenneth Greene, 23, was behind the wheel on Jan. 4 when the van slammed through the Best Buy at 2650 N. Clark St. just before 5 a.m.

Greene and several accomplices took roughly $11,300 in headphones, laptops and tablets before taking off in two stolen cars, leaving the van behind, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said in court Tuesday.

Antonietti said the group brought the cars along as getaway vehicles.

Greene was arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with burglary. According to Antonietti, he was on parole during the Jan. 4 incident.

Greene, of the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue, was one of four men arrested this week following a Chicago police smash-and-grab investigation. Greene admitted to officers that he drove the van, Antonietti said.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Greene on Tuesday held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
