CHICAGO — Chicago Police released photos of a gunman who they said shot a 16-year-old during a robbery in Woodlawn on Feb. 16.

About 1:15 p.m. that day the teen was in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when another teen came up to him and pulled a gun on him, police said. When the teen tried to run away, the robber shot him in his lower back, police said.

The 16-year-old was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The gunman ran off, but police were able to find surveillance video of him.

Detectives are asking the public's help in identifying the gunman, who is described as a black teen, ages 16-18, standing 6-foot to 6-foot-2 and weighing 150-160 pounds. He was wearing a red jacket over a black hoodie.

Police warned residents that the teen is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if he's spotted. They're asking anyone with information on his identity to call 312-747-8380.
