HYDE PARK — Washington Park will mark Black History Month with a celebration of the melding of the cultures of the African diaspora in the neighborhood called Ashaki.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, the field house at 5531 S. Martin Luther King Drive will be infused with the music and art of Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal and other cultures for free performances and food for kids.

Past years have featured jam sessions with South Side musicians, who were happy to put the instruments in the hands of curious kids from the neighborhood.

The event is now in its 23rd year and admission is free.
