ROSCOE VILLAGE — Lane closures begin Wednesday on Western Avenue between Addison and Roscoe streets as the city replaces the 100-year-old water main below.

Northbound traffic will be affected first, with a parking lane and one of two northbound lanes closed. Once work on that stretch is completed, construction will switch to the southbound lanes. Again, a parking lane and one of two southbound lanes will be closed.

The replacement project is expected to last two months with street resurfacing to follow.

Replacement of the main between Addison and Roscoe is part of a larger multiphased effort on Western that's been under way since November and stretches south to Jones Street.

Motorists are being advised to allow for extra travel time or to take alternate north-south routes.

The water main replacement is being undertaken in advance of demolition of the Western-Belmont overpass, slated for late spring or summer of this year.
