Man Killed in Uptown Shooting

CHICAGO — Police say a 27-year-old man was killed after being shot in Uptown Saturday evening.

The man was in the 1300 block of West Leland Avenue around 5:05 p.m. when someone approached him on foot and fired shots, striking the man in his back and leg, police said.

The shooter then fled in a small silver vehicle, police said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, police said, where he later died. Police said the man was a documented gang member.

The victim was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Demarcus Adams, of the 4400 block of North Racine Avenue. The Medical Examiner's Office said Adams was 28, and was pronounced dead at 5:44 p.m.

Area North detectives are investigating. No more information was available.
