WEST ENGLEWOOD — Lindblom Math & Science Academy was one of 10 schools to win a $2,000 grant to promote art education.

“Lindblom demonstrated through their competitive application for this grant that they are not only committed to providing their students with a well-rounded education, but also to growing and improving their arts education programs. These funds will help support that growth,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts.

Lindblom, 6130 S. Wolcott Ave., is centered on math and science, but also offers students four arts disciplines: dance, theater, visual arts and music.

The Vans Custom Culture Grant is sponsored by Vans and Americans for the Arts, a national nonprofit that focuses on art and art education. Lindblom’s administration will use the money to expand the school’s visual arts program. The school will create space to feature a three-dimensional display of students’ work.

The grant also will help fund a new software suite, “Smart Music,” which gives students real-time feedback as they sight read while playing an instrument or singing, officials said.

“The arts are integral to students’ comprehensive education,” Lindblom Principal Alan Mather said in a news release.

“The grant allows us to continue to build on our unparalleled arts program, engaging our bright students and engaging their teachers in a new way."
