CHICAGO — Do you know young people who've done outstanding community service in 2014?

The "Heroes in the Hood” program is looking to honor them.

Chicago residents ages 12-18 qualify. Three winners will get a chance to attend a Chicago White Sox game with lunch. They also will receive a plaque or certificate.

Heroes in the Hood was founded in 1993 by the DuSable Museum, GO Airport Express and the Crusader newspaper to honor youths from underserved communities who are serving their neighborhoods.

The awards have a special category called "Stop the Violence" that will honor adult leaders of teenagers, teachers, counselors and community leaders who have developed some kind of educational outreach or prevention program that aims to reduce teen violence.

The winner will be awarded $1,000 for their school or project. They'll also be given tickets and transportation for their group members to attend a White Sox game.

Awards will be presented to the top three nominees, the top group and the Stop the Violence winner. All nominees will be invited to attend an awards ceremony.
