CHICAGO — DePaul University and North Park University announced they were cancelling classes Monday due to Sunday's blizzard, which has dropped nearly 14 inches on Chicago.

“We have been monitoring weather conditions all Sunday and have stayed in touch with local transportation officials in order to make a decision on closing the university and canceling classes,” said Bob Janis, vice president of Facility Operations.

“While our crews have kept up with the snowfall and our campuses were in good shape Sunday afternoon, the side streets in the surrounding neighborhoods were still snow-packed with several cars stuck. The suburban areas, where many of our faculty and staff live, have similar conditions,” he said.

The school plans to be back in session Tuesday.

Daytime classes are canceled at North Park, and administrative buildings are closed.
