LOGAN SQUARE —  The Logan Arcade is hosting a Super Bowl Sunday for the rest of us: a football-free day of free pinball, Dungeons and Dragons and a Star Trek marathon.

The “Refuge of the Damned” at Logan Arcade, 2410 W. Fullerton Ave., kicks off Sunday at noon, Feb. 1 with free games, free snacks and free fun — “minus the Super Bowl.”

“In [an] effort to provide sanctuary for those who do not already participate in Super Bowl festivities, but still like to, you know, drink and yell and have fun, Logan Arcade will be hosting a very special non-sporting event for all us indoor kids,” reads a announcement from the Logan Arcade staff.

As noted by Logan Arcade owner Jim Zespy, the “refuge” is a reference to a secret location in The Simpsons TV show where nerds gather to escape bullies in the hidden tunnels of Springfield Elementary.

You and your friends aren't into "sportsball"? How about a 10-person game of Killer Queen as the New England Patriots battle the Seattle Seahawks?

The following is a rough schedule of day-long events at Logan Arcade, running all the way through the Super Bowl:

  • All pinball tables will be set on free play, all day.
  • Free vegan chili will be provided by Logan Square's Cafe Mustache and nachos from Chicago Vegan Foods while supplies last.
  • All-day drink specials include $2 off cans of beer, craft beer and ciders.

Noon to 5 p.m.: Space Lincoln Star Trek

Join hosts of the Space Lincoln Star Trek podcast for a curated Star Trek marathon with an episode from each series. Star Trek trivia, prizes and themed drinks will also be offered.

6 p.m. to 12 a.m.: Dungeons and Dragons

“Even if you know little to nothing about D&D, it will be fun,” according to the Logan Arcade announcement. The game will be hosted by local Dungeon Master Chad Troutman, for an event he calls, "The Tower of Gygax, a 'hack and slash' scenario anyone can play.”
