HYDE PARK — The Chicago Blackhawks are giving South Side kids free hockey lessons and providing all equipment for two clinics in February.

The coaches from the Blackhawks will hit the ice on Feb. 4 and Feb. 7 to teach kids ages 6 to 12 the basics of hockey for a free one-hour clinic at the Midway Plaisance ice rink, 5950 S. Woodlawn Ave.

No prior experience skating is necessary, and the team and the Chicago Park District will provide skates, sticks, helmets and shin and elbow pads for free to use for the clinic.

Kids age six to nine will hit the ice with coaches and trainers from 4-5 p.m. Feb. 4 and 2-3 p.m. Feb. 7. Older kids from 10 to 12 years old will get to skate from 5-6 p.m. Feb. 4 and 3-4 p.m. Feb. 7.

For more information, call the Midway Plaisance field house at 312-745-2470.
