CHICAGO — A 38-year-old man is dead after crashing his SUV into another car while fleeing police in Englewood Sunday night, police said.

Around 10:30 p.m., police pulled over a speeding SUV in the 6700 block of South Ashland Avenue with three men inside, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

While police questioned the three men, one of the men got back into the SUV and drove away south on Ashland Avenue leaving his two passengers at the scene, Pacheco said.

With police in pursuit, the 38-year-old man blew a red light at the intersection of 76th Street and South Ashland Avenue in Auburn Gresham and struck another car. The SUV also hit a fire hydrant and light pole, Pacheco said.

The 38-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Pacheco said.

A 45-year-old woman who was driving the other car and her passenger, a 1-year-old girl, were taken to Holy Cross Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Pacheco said.

The two other men were released after the crash, Pacheco said.
