By Alex Parker | January 24, 2015 5:30pm | Updated on January 26, 2015 9:20am

CHICAGO — Police say a man offered to two children candy in an attempt to lure them into a vehicle Tuesday in Irving Park.

In a community alert issued Saturday, police said a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were walking home from school about 3:15 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue when a vehicle with two males inside pulled up.

The men attempted to speak to the children, and the passenger said they would "offer them a ride home or anywhere they [wished] to go." When the children didn't respond, the passenger offered them candy and appeared as if he was going to exit the vehicle.

The children fled to their home, police said, and the vehicle drove away.

The vehicle occupants are described as Hispanic men. The passenger is middle aged with balding black hair, a mustache, acne or freckles on his face, wearing a beige jacket, police said. The driver is described as middle aged, with black hair, a mustache, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a white T-shirt.

Police said the vehicle is a green older-model four-door sedan with rust on the rear and blue tape over one of the taillights.
