LINCOLN SQUARE — Welles Park's youngest users got a new playground in 2010 — now it's the big kids' turn for an upgrade.

Proposals for a new playground for older children will be on view at a community forum scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the park's fieldhouse, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave.

Residents will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the playground's design and equipment.

In June 2014, Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) announced $1.3 million in Tax Increment Financing for improvements at Welles Park.

The TIF funds were earmarked for pool, plumbing and locker room renovations, a new fieldhouse roof, tennis court resurfacing and the playground.

Though Chicago Plays! is bankrolling hundreds of new playgrounds across the city, Welles is ineligible for the free program, having previously received financial assistance from the Chicago Park District for its toddler playground.
