Four Dead, 13 Wounded in Weekend Violence

CHICAGO —  Four people were killed and 13 were wounded in shootings over the weekend.

The most recent incident ended with a police chase and the fatal shooting of a guard dog Sunday night in Garfield Park.

Around 8:15 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in his heel while standing in the 3100 block of West Polk Street when someone opened fire from a gray SUV, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Pacheco said.

Officers saw the shooting and chased after the SUV, which crashed into an a muffler shop in the 3000 block of West Madison Street. The men in the SUV ran off before being taken into custody by officers, Pacheco said.

During the chase a guard dog bit an officer in the ankle and the officer fatally shot the dog, Pacheco said.

The officer was taken to Rush Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Pacheco said.

No charges have been filed in the incident, Pacheco said.

Around 7:35 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot by someone in a black car while standing in the 1500 block of East 66th Place in Woodlawn, Pacheco said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition stabilized after he was shot in his buttocks and thigh, Pacheco said.

Earlier Sunday, a man was fatally shot on the Near West Side and two others were wounded in separate shootings.

Also, a 15-year-old boy was shot in Austin and a 36-year-old man was shot in Washington Park Sunday.

Saturday evening, a man was fatally shot and another was wounded on the South Side. A 23-year-old man was also shot dead on the West Side.

From Friday night into Saturday, a teen was fatally shot in Gage Park and six others were wounded in city shootings.
