ENGLEWOOD — The West Englewood Library, 1745 W. 63rd St., is bringing back its free resume workshops beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13.

There’s a need in the community, said Lindsay Holbrook, the library’s reference specialist.

“This a very low-income area, so getting jobs [for many] is one of the most important things on people’s to-do lists,” she said.

The 15-minute one-on-one workshops are always held on Tuesdays, from noon to 1:15 p.m., with the first one on Jan. 13. The workshops also are Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 10, March 24, April 14 and April 28. Holbrook said they will add more dates depending on the need.

Holbrook said she and another staff member are using more technology during the sessions than previous workshops.

“We are using a website called GotResumebuilder.com because we want to integrate more technology into our sessions,” she said. The site offers templates for its visitors. Holbrook will sit down at the computer with participants and help them step-by-step.

She will also start to refer people to websites with job listings.

“We’re trying to put more of Web-base spin on things because then they can have access to resources from anywhere once they leave the library,” Holbrook said.

The Englewood community needs a free service like this, Holbrook said.

“Wherever you go for a job, you have to have a resume, but most people don’t know how to put one together, so that’s why we try to help them with it, along with filling out a job application,” she said.

Participants must RSVP in advance because space is limited. They are asked to bring their old resume or at least have their work history with job descriptions written down. Holbrook will help with the rest.
