CHICAGO — A Chicago Police officer was sent to a hospital Thursday after his squad car was hit by a stolen van in West Englewood, police said.

About 2:30 p.m., the officer and his partner were trying to curb a stolen van in traffic in the 6000 block of South Winchester Avenue, when the driver of the van rammed the squad car, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The 26-year-old officer was injured in his left leg and possibly sustained a concussion. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

One offender is in custody, Zala said. An investigation is ongoing, and police believe a second person may be involved.
