At Least Three Wounded by Gunfire New Year's Day

CHICAGO — At least three people were wounded in shootings across the city during the early hours of New Year's Day, according to police.

• A man was shot in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street in West Garfield Park around 4:30 a.m., according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman. He was treated at Mount Sinai Hospital for a gunshot wound in the back, Greer said.

No further information was immediately available. 

• Around 3:05 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park.

The man was outside of a club in the 3900 block of West Chicago Avenue when a white van pulled up and someone from inside opened fire, hitting him in the foot, Greer said. The shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim was taken to West Suburban Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Greer said.

• Around 2:30 a.m., someone shot a woman in Ashburn.

The woman, 21, was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked minivan in the 7900 block of South St. Louis Avenue when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and someone from inside fired shots, striking her in her leg, Greer said.

The shooter fled traveling northbound.

The victim was taken to Christ Hospital where her condition has stabilized, police said.
