WICKER PARK — A Chicago-born DJ who moved away to Los Angeles, where he has held jam sessions with Stevie Wonder and served as a producer for artists such as Lauryn Hill, is returning to Chicago on Saturday.

Scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., the CumbiaSazo! Dance Party will feature DJ Jeremy Sole, along with visual art and performances by nine other DJs including Esso Afrojam Funkbeat and Altered Tapes.

"I used to go see Jeremy Sole at the Note and Lava Lounge back in the 90s, so I was super happy to help out with this event," said Alejandro Ayala, a promoter from CumbiaSazo! who organized the show along with Itzi Nallah.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2001, Sole has co-founded Afro Funke', a long-running Afrobeat music night that has helped to cultivate a loyal crowd for Afrobeat, Latin, Brazilian, and other authentic and remixed world rhythms.

Sole, who deejayed for actor Sly Stone's birthday party and mixed in front of tens of thousands of people for President Barack Obama's election night party, has also shared the stage with Ray Charles and Chaka Kahn, among others.

Tickets to the 21-and-over event are $15 (or $8 with advanced RSVP via Do312) and can be bought here.

A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to Project NIA, a group that helps to curb youth incarceration through community-based activities.
