CHICAGO —  A man is dead after crashing into two cars while driving the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive early Monday.

Around 2:40 a.m., the man was driving his car south in the northbound lanes in the 4100 block of South Lake Shore Drive when he struck two cars, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

The driver was unresponsive on the scene and was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The accident left northbound lanes from 39th Street to 47th Street shut down Monday morning, Sedevic said.

Six others were injured in the accident, but police did not have hospital information, Sedevic said.

According to the Tribune, two people were taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious-to-critical condition and a third was in serious-to-critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

Three people refused medical attention on the scene, theTribune reported.

It's too early to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash, Sedevic said.
