HYDE PARK — The Washington Park Arts Incubator is searching for Chicago furniture makers to create 60 pieces for a new pavilion.

The University of Chicago gallery is installing the former summer pavilion from Millennium Park on a city-owned lot at 256 E. Garfield Blvd. in the spring and wants a Chicago woodworker who can have 60 pieces of furniture ready by May 4.

Proposals are due by Jan. 18 for six wooden tables that can be interlocked to create a 45-foot long banquet table, 30 chairs, seven benches, 12 stools and a modular stage that can be disassembled.

The pavilion was designed by MAS Studio for the 2013 "Spontaneous Interventions: Design Actions for the Common Good" exhibition.

The project will also include the efforts of 10 teens learning woodworking and construction at the gallery. The apprentices are also building a deck for the neighboring Currency Exchange Café and building fences for the 26 properties the university owns in Washington Park.

Proposals must be submitted through uchicago.slideroom.com by Jan. 18. Finalists will be chosen by late February, and a winner chosen in March.

The furniture is scheduled to go up at the pavilion on May 4.
