CHICAGO — Newton Bateman Elementary School in Irving Park has hired a new principal after months of searching.

The Bateman Local School Council on Wednesday voted 9-0 to give the job to interim Principal Georgia Davos-Vetas, according to Assistant Principal Efrain Martinez.

Davos Vetas said she was overjoyed when she heard the news.

"I was ecstatic," she said. "What a wonderful opportunity to make a difference at a great school like Bateman. I am just elated."

Davos-Vetas was hired as interim principal at the school at 4220 N. Richmond St. in September, Martinez said.

Davos-Vetas will be receiving a four-year contract at the school. She previously worked for a year as a curriculum coordinator and another year as an assistant principal at the school, Martinez said.

According to the school's website, she has 20 years of experience with the Chicago Public Schools. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Loyola University and received her master's degree in educational leadership from Lewis University.
