HYDE PARK — Bret Harte Elementary School eighth-graders are hosting a bake sale and wrapping presents on Dec. 20 to raise money for a trip to Washington, D.C.

Students will offer gift-wrapping and selling brownies, cupcakes and other baked goods from 10 a.m. to noon at the Del Prado Apartments, 5307 S. Hyde Park Blvd.

The event is the latest fundraiser from the 31 students in Kristy Ulrich-Papczun’s class trying to raise $31,000 for a trip to Washington, D.C., in April.

The students have already held car washes, sold taffy apples and other fundraisers to make a special tour of the White House Mayor Rahm Emanuel helped schedule for the kids.

All baked goods for the sale are homemade by students, parents, teachers and other volunteers.
