PORTAGE PARK — Facing a flu outbreak that has emptied classes all over the city, parents of students at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy are taking matters into their own hands.

The school's Parent Teacher Association is asking for donations of anti-bacterial wipes to replenish the school's depleted supply and for volunteers to clean the school after classes let out for winter break at 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

An influenza epidemic is sweeping through public and private school classrooms across the city.

Volunteers can register online to help clean Thorp, 6024 W. Warwick Ave.
