CHICAGO — A substitute teacher at a Wicker Park magnet school was charged last week with battery after physically abusing students, authorities said.
Abdul Muztar, who was working at Sabin Magnet Dual Language School, 2216 W. Hirsch St., was charged with five counts of misdemeanor battery for grabbing students by the back their necks, police said.
He is due to appear in court in January, police said.
Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Lauren Huffman said CPS officials are working with police.
"Chicago Public Schools is aware of these allegations and takes them very seriously. We are working with the Chicago Police Department on an investigation," she said.
Sabin's principal, Gwen Kasper-Couty, did not respond to a request for comment.
