West Town Armed Robberies Lead to Police Alert

CHICAGO — An uptick in recent armed robberies have police warning residents to stay alert.

At least two series of robberies have occurred since late last month, police said.

In the most recent robberies, three robbers approach victims who are by themselves and take their property by displaying a weapon or using force, police said.

The incidents occurred in the:

• 2400 block of West Washington Boulevard on Dec. 2 about 7:20 p.m.;

• 2300 block of West Madison Street on Dec. 3 at about 6:50 p.m.;

• 200 block of North Artesian Avenue on Dec. 7 at about 7:20 p.m.

The suspects are described as black males between 17 and 30 years old, standing between 5-foot-6 and 6-foot-4.

In November, a lone suspect approached victims, displayed a handgun and threatened to shoot them if they did not hand over their property. One of the victims was a cab driver, police said.

The incidents occurred in the:

• 100 block of North Hermitage Avenue on Nov. 25 at about 10:30 p.m.;

• 0-100 block of North Hoyne Avenue on Nov. 28 at about 6:15 p.m.

The suspect is described as a black man between 20 and 27 years old, 5-foot-9, weighing 150 pounds.

Two similar incidents also occurred in East Garfield Park and Tri-Taylor in November, police said.

Two men approached victims and took their property by physical force or by implying a weapon.

Those robberies occurred in the:

• 100 block of North Albany Avenue on Nov. 27 at about 11 a.m.;

• 2000 block of West Harrison Street on Dec. 3 at about 5:15 p.m.

The suspects were described as two male blacks between 17 and 19 years old, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds.
