CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the shooting death of Demario Bailey, 15, who was gunned down Saturday under an Englewood viaduct.

The boy, whose name was not released, is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery, police said.

Demario was walking in the first block of West 63rd Street about 12:40 Saturday afternoon with his twin brother when the suspect approached and tried to rob the pair, police said. In the course of the robbery, the boy fired, fatally hitting Demario in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Tribune reported Demario was trying to help his brother fight off four robbers.

The boys were on their way to basketball practice when the robbery occurred.

Demario was a sophomore at Johnson College Prep, his school's principal said.
