CHICAGO— One woman is dead and six people were displaced after a fire early Sunday morning in Chatham, fire officials said.

At 1:18 a.m., firefighters responded to call of a fire in a three-story courtyard building in the 7900 block of South Maryland Avenue, said Juan Hernandez, a Fire Department spokesman.

The fire originated in the third floor of the northeast corner of the partially abandoned building. After crews extinguished the fire at 2:50 a.m., they discovered a person, believed to be an adult woman, dead. The woman's age was not immediately available. No other injuries were reported, Hernandez said.

Six other individuals were displaced in the fire, Hernandez added.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
