CHICAGO — Whether you missed these stories from the week because you had the flu, were recovering from your office holiday party or were just plain busy, make sure to read these eight stories before the weekend is over.

• In just his third season in the NBA, Anthony Davis is putting together an MVP-worthy performance.

That isn't lost on the team at his South Side alma mater Perspectives Charter Schools.

"He shows us that no matter where you came from, you can still make it, no matter how small your school is," said Perspectives guard James Jordan, of Bronzeville. "He's a great player, a good role model, and he gives back to the community."

• Sticking to the theme of great basketball players to come out of Chicago's high schools, we may have found the next one. Kezo Brown is only the second guy at Simeon Career Academy to make the varsity team as a freshman in the last decade. The other? Jabari Parker.

• Loop-based construction company Clayco Corp. was one of four companies granted by the Federal Aviation Administration to operate drones for commercial use.

• After more than 80 years in business in Chicago, National Rubber Stamp Co. is closing its doors.

"Just in the 18 years we've been here, things have dramatically changed," co-owner Wayne Heintz said of its last location in Lakeview. "All the stores are gone. They're putting in condos. When we moved in here when this was 'Antique Row.'"

• Bita Buenrostro is running for alderman in the 2nd Ward. Central to her platform: She'll fill in potholes personally on demand.

• Finch's Beer Co. has plans to build a new brewery and tap room along the North Branch of the Chicago River in Lincoln Park. The plans include a boat dock.

• Seventy years after their father was gunned down, two brothers donated $10,000 for new bullet-proof vests to be used by officers on the Far North Side.

• Lastly, you must meet Nicole Makowski, the Sausage Queen of Chicago.
