HYDE PARK — A Kenwood Academy student pulled a stun gun during a dispute behind King College Prep after the schools’ Monday basketball game, a school official said.

The schools are old rivals, and after Kenwood beat King 51-48 Monday night, a dispute reportedly erupted just before 7 p.m. behind the school. A girl from Kenwood pulled out a stun gun, said Reuben Norris, the head of security at King, 4445 S. Drexel Blvd.

It's unclear whether the weapon was used, and there were no injuries reported.

Norris said he came out of the back door of the school after the game ended shortly before 7 p.m. and saw Chicago Police breaking up a fight. He said King Principal David Narain and Kenwood Principal Greg Mason were both at the game and interceded in the fight.

Police did not respond to requests for comment.

Neither principal could be reached for comment, but Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Lauren Huffman issued a statement, saying: "CPS is aware of an altercation that occurred after the game and is investigating the matter. No students were injured, and both schools are working together to ensure that there is no remaining tension between the two schools."

Teachers at King said Narain addressed the student body Tuesday morning about the incident in an effort to resolve any lingering tension between the schools.

The old rivalry was fanned before the game, with students from both schools taking to Twitter to goad their opponents. Students from King later took to Twitter to taunt Kenwood about the stun gun.

The Monday night game was packed and close until the final seconds. Kenwood eked out a victory in the final 40 seconds with some well-timed steals, according to Sun-Times coverage of the game.
