ROSCOE VILLAGE — Santa Claus is taking time out from his hectic schedule to pay a visit to Roscoe Village Winterfest this weekend.

A guest appearance from St. Nick is just one of the fest's highlights, set for Saturday and Sunday.

The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday with the annual tree lighting ceremony outside the Village Tap, 2055 W. Roscoe St.

Afterward, carolers will serenade shoppers as they hop from one store to the next. Most of the neighborhood's retailers have extended their hours to 9 p.m., offering special deals on merchandise and treating customers to live music, food and drink (click here for complete list):

  • Roscoe Village Bikes, 2016 W. Roscoe St., will be sampling the beers given to service techs as tips.
  • À Pied, 2037 W. Roscoe St., is handing out free scarves with boot purchase.
  • Village Paperie, 2108 W. Roscoe St., will personalize ornaments and "Cookies for Santa" plates for free.
  • RoscoeBooks, 2142 W. Roscoe St., is serving up wine and a 10 percent discount on purchases.

Sunday at Winterfest, which runs 1-5 p.m., is all about the kids.

Santa will set up shop at Conexion Salon & Spa, 2213 W. Roscoe St. Pay him a visit and be sure to stay on the nice list.

Enjoy free trolley rides around the neighborhood — climb aboard at any corner bounded by Roscoe, Wolcott, Belmont and Oakley. To really get in the holiday spirit, take a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh and jingle all the way around the Village, departing throughout the afternoon from Lush, 2232 W. Roscoe St.

  • Performances of the "Nutcracker," 2:15 and 2:45 p.m. at Baby Take a Bow, 2223 W. Roscoe St.
  • Snowflake making, 3-5 p.m., at John's Place, 2132 W. Roscoe St.
  • Meet Frosty the Snowman at Kickin', 2118 W. Roscoe St.
  • Decorate mini holiday cupcakes at Give Me Some Sugar, 2205 W. Belmont Ave.
  • Trim a stocking party, 1-4 p.m., at Workroom Couture Home, 1906 W. Belmont Ave.
