BEVERLY — Just when you thought the political ad season was over, comedian Pat McGann decided to make one more campaign spot.

McGann headlined a sold-out comedy night fundraiser for Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) Saturday night at Morgan Park Academy. The lifelong Beverly resident is known for his homegrown comedy, and his faux political ad had the crowd roaring.

In the "ad," McGann poses as an aldermanic candidate running against O'Shea. He vows to fill the Southwest Side's potholes with fish, add much-needed cemeteries to the ward (heh..) and bring cocktail waitresses to railroad crossings. He also poked fun at local grocer County Fair Foods, the popular Moms of Beverly Facebook page and others.

Watch the ad here (story continues below):

McGann is a lifelong resident of the 19th Ward and a popular headliner at comedy night fundraisers hosted by various parishes and schools on the Southwest Side.

But McGann's audience extends beyond his Beverly roots. He appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in January and regularly serves as an emcee at Zanies Comedy Club in Old Town as well as Zanies' suburban clubs in Rosemont and St. Charles.

In front of many of his childhood friends, McGann put on a show with a heavy emphasis on his local observations. He brought along fellow Beverly comedian Matty Ryan, who also joked about his upbringing in the heavily Irish Catholic neighborhood.

Despite his vow to replace O'Shea in the ad, he later admitted he has no interest in supplanting O'Shea as alderman.

"Matt [O'Shea] told me he gets calls for everything, even people complaining that their garbage cans smell. I couldn't deal with those people," he said.
