BRIDGEPORT — Chef AJ Rudis is closing his carry-out restaurant but pledges to return to the neighborhood.

"I need seats at that place. It's just too small," Rudis said of his kitchen and counter at 748 W. 35th St., which doubled as a makeshift commissary for Rudis' other job as Chicago White Sox clubhouse chef.

The last day for orders will be Dec. 19, ending nearly a nearly three-year run in Bridgeport that saw the veteran chef churning out hearty specials like rib-eye steak sandwiches, BBQ salmon and a patty melt made with a blend of chuck, sirloin and short rib meat.

But Rudis, who's cutting back his hours with the ballclub, said he was not done cooking for the South Side.

He's in the planning stages of consulting for a local sports bar, the details of which will be finalized sometime soon.
