ROGERS PARK — Ald. Joe Moore, who has represented the 49th Ward on the City Council since 1991, plans to officially announce his campaign for re-election next week.

"I'm at the top of my game and more energized and focused than ever before," Moore wrote Monday in a post on his Facebook page. "I hope you will join me as we celebrate our successes of the last four years, and recommit ourselves to building an even better future."

Moore said he plans to make the announcement next Monday at the Heartland Cafe, 7001 N. Glenwood Ave. The event kicks off with food and refreshments at 6:30 p.m. with the announcement coming from Moore at 7:15 p.m., according to his post.

The event is open to the public.

Moore touted the "revitalization of Morse Avenue, the stunning success of the Glenwood Sunday Farmers' Market, the historic Participatory Budgeting process and the opening of the Jewel/Osco Grocery Store at Gateway Center" as accomplishments of a united community he fostered the past four years.

Moore will not be without challengers on the 2015 ballot.

Don Gordon, who ran against Moore in 2007 and lost a runoff election by 300 votes, announced his campaign for re-election late last year. Socialist John Beacham also said he plans to run.
