East Garfield Park Shooting Claims Man's Life

CHICAGO — A man was fatally shot in East Garfield Park Tuesday evening. 

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of North Avers Avenue around 7:15 p.m., according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 36-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds in his head and and his chest, Sedevic said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, she said. 

No other information was immediately available. 

Police said the man was a documented gang member. 

No one is in custody for this shooting.
