By Alex Parker | November 1, 2014 10:03am

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy shot by police Wednesday was charged with two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly fired at officers in Back of the Yards.

Police were conducting a traffic stop in the 5100 block of South Wood Street about 11 p.m. Wednesday when they saw two men exchanging gunfire across the street, according to a statement from the Police Department's News Affairs office.

When the officers announced themselves, the teen, whose name was withheld, pointed his handgun at them and fired, police said. The officers shot back, hitting the boy, who was taken to an area hospital. The officers were unharmed, police said.

A weapon was found at the scene, police said.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
